A cookie table is a Pittsburgh Wedding Tradition that grew out of the Great Depression and the many different ethnic groups that settled in the region. During the Depression, families of both the bride and groom would bring traditional cookies to the wedding for dessert in place of a cake. Today the cookie table tradition continues, but instead of replacing the cake it is a complement. These cookies are for guests to either eat throughout the night or take home. The bride and groom place bags on the table so guests can fill a bag of cookies and take home their favorites. There will be a cookie table at Brian and Caroline's wedding.
