Located in Oracle, AZ, the Biosphere 2 was originally designed as a closed experiment to study how plants, animals and nutrients could become self-sustaining. Today, the Biosphere 2 is part of the University of Arizona and is still used for research. Tour the glass and steel structures that were originally designed for the experiment that include a rain forest, ocean, savanna, desert, and marsh.
If you are interested in history and aircraft, take a 25 minute drive to the Pima Air and Space Museum. It’s one of the largest aerospace museums and it houses more than 300 aircraft including a SR-71 Blackbird and Air Force One. Check out http://pimaair.org to plan your visit. After a scenic 25 minute ride from the hotel, you will reach the Desert Museum (or as Prakash likes to call it The Dessert Museum). Prakash recognizes it for its soft serve but everyone else recognizes it for its walking paths and wildlife habitats. The Cat Canyon, Desert Grassland, Life on the Rocks, and Life Underground Exhibits showcase different animals native to Arizona. Make sure to dress appropriately because 80% of the museum is outdoors.
