Jess My first date with Cody was to the Wesley Formal dance at Virginia Tech in 2014. If you know Cody well you know he loves to bust out his swing dancing moves. While hanging around Wesley Cody choreographed a special routine for us to reveal at the dance. After several practice sessions, Cody told me he thought it would be awkward if we showed up with separate dates, and asked me to be his date. Cody Just because someone is your date to a dance, that does not mean that the two of you went on a date. The real occasion happened after I asked Jess if she would like to go on a date with me. When she said yes and asked where we were going, I told her it was a surprise (meaning I didn't know yet). Eventually, we made our way out to the middle of nowhere to lay on a blanket and watch the stars. The sky was clear and the stars were beautiful and now it's more clear than ever how beautiful our life is going to be together.

I was a little bummed this year about celebrating my 25th birthday in quarantine, but Cody helped make the day unforgettable. While I was inside working from home, Cody left for a couple of hours to get groceries. When he came back from the store he walks into the apartment dressed in a suit and asks if I am ready for my first birthday surprise. He gets down on one knee and proposes while I am still dressed in my pajamas! We celebrated the occasion with fancy cocktails and take out at home.
