When someone tells you, on the very first day they meet you, “You’re going to be my wife,” you don’t exactly think they’re being serious. But here we are, six years later, preparing to take that next step. Six years ago, at Goodfellas nightclub, fate — and the encouragement of a close friend, Edwin — brought us together. What started with a few dances and casual conversation quickly turned into something much deeper, although only one of us knew at the time that this was the beginning of a love story. During a break from dancing, we sat down to catch our breath, and that’s when it happened. Myers whispered into Candice’s ear, “You’re going to be my wife.” There was something about that first night, and that conversation, that felt different. It marked the beginning of a beautiful journey, one that would take us from being friends to deeply intertwining our lives, cultures, and families in ways we never imagined. A love that transcends cultures — a love that’s uniquely ours. Candice’s family often jokes about how we have our own language, and while they’re right, it’s not just the words — it’s the love language we’ve created, one that we’ve cultivated with care and dedication. Through the years, we've made countless memories together, from game nights with the girls to family vacations, cooking together, visiting the library, and indulging in our favorite treat at Bmore Licks (we can’t resist that ice cream!). But the most important thing we’ve built is a foundation grounded in love, trust, and faith. Like any great relationship, ours has had its challenges. We’ve had to learn the art of compromise, patience, and how to communicate when it’s not easy. But through it all, we’ve come to understand that the key to our bond is leaning on God, being patient with each other, and showing compassion every day. We understand that we are writing our personal love story, one that was created and guided by God. On the day of the proposal, Myers truly caught me off guard. It was our daughter’s birthday and also my favorite holiday — God’s birthday. He asked me to get my hair and makeup done but gave me no details about what was coming. Later that night, at dinner, he asked me the question that would change our lives forever — and of course, I said yes.
