Our First Date

July 29th 2016

Hands shaking, I carried a vase with some flowers. In the many texts up to this point, she mentioned off hand that purple was her favorite color. I had the florets design the arrangement around purple. I had made reservations at a Japanese steak house. I figured if the onion volcano did not cook off anyone eye brows, it would be a great first date. As a flight attendant, she lived in a hotel by the airport. As a non-flight crew, I stayed as far from the airport as I could. I was out of my comfort zone. Anything from where the hotel was, to where we could go to eat and get to know each other. Some might say, I was Wing-ing it to impress woman of the skies. Dinner went well. She talked about how she has been sky diving, and her major trip that she had gotten back from not too long before hand to Puerto Rico. I tried to not spill soup on my shirt, you know, the kind that is just broth and a little green onion. I've spent my whole life calling that Dishwater soup. I about fell out of my chair when she called it the same. Her friends tracked her location all night with the silly Apple location share, I held it together to not look too foolish, and we've made it this far. Looking back, I don't think either of us knew it would be the start of forever, but we wouldn't change a thing. -Michael

She Said Yes

June 12th 2017

Hands shaking again as I await the biggest answer of my life. The speech was written. The Suit was looking sharp, even with me in it. The wine was open, the flowers were beautiful, and the ring was...perfect. Candace was late. But that was okay. It gave me time to run though my lines again. The music plays as I hear her come down the stairs. The words I had been practicing dance off my tongue. Everything was in place. When she came in--She didn't come down the stairs, so my music queue was off. She started laughing as I stood in the living rooms, dressed to the 9's trying to start music on a table hidden behind flowers and wine. All I could think is, wow, I hope today was not a bad day at work--that never crossed my mind up until that point. I finally got her to sit down, and passed her a glass of wine. Who knows, she might need it if things go poorly. I started saying the words that had be dancing in my head all day as I looked into the eyes of this amazing woman. I finally got to the end, dropped to one knee and asked the important question as I reached into my breast pocket for the ring. "Will you marry me?" -Michael
