Kathryn and Chrisdelon both grew up in the same neighborhood of Floral Park, NY, with both families being friends since Chrisdelon's older sister Dania and Kathryn's older brother CJ attended the same school and were also in the same grade. While knowing of each other, Chrisdelon and Kathryn did not get to know each other until 2018, on the day after New Year's Day to be exact! On New Year's Eve, Kathryn had posted a reflection of her 2017 on Facebook and Chrisdelon saw her post and decided to reach out to her to share that he felt the exact same way about his 2017. The two talked and connected on their experiences and reflections and thus began their journey of self growth, connection, and love!

When Chrisdelon knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kathryn, he began planning for the proposal. He knew he wanted it to be a huge surprise for her, and he asked his older sister Dania and his future brother-in-law Dexter if they can be a part of the plan by faking their own engagement. Kathryn will later be shocked into finding out she was attending her own engagement! On Dec 7, 2019, Kathryn, Chrisdelon, his Mom and Dad, and Dexter arrived at Gantry State Park Plaza at about 7PM and began setting up and decorating to make sure the area looked perfect. Kathryn especially made sure that everything was decorated beautifully for her future sister-in-law (little did she know she was decorating for her own engagement). With boxes of fake candles and string lights, they went to the planned location at the end of a pier and decorated the floor with the candles in the shape of a heart and the railing with the string lights and used the Manhattan skyline at night as a beautiful background. Dania awaited in a nearby marketplace, where Kathryn's family and friends were waiting as well. The plan was that at 8:30PM, Dania would show up and about 30 seconds later the rest of Kathryn's family and friends would follow, each person holding a lit fake candle, while Kathryn was deceivingly told a different plan: Dania's family and friends would arrive before 8:30PM, and when Dania shows up at 9PM, Dexter will propose. 8:30PM hit and as Dania walked down the pier, Kathryn began panicking that she was 30 minutes early and her family and friends hadn't arrived yet. As Dania greeted and hugged them, Kathryn was very concerned, but then she also noticed a big crowd of people walking towards them from the entrance of the pier. Soon enough, she began to recognize that it was her Mom, Dad, older brother CJ, and younger brother Gerard walking in front with her other family and friends following behind, she broke down into tears and realized this proposal was for her <3.
