RJ and Camryn met in November 2020 at RJ's 21st birthday party. What was supposed to be a fun night, turned into forever. During the COVID-19 pandemic, their college, the University of Denver, had forbidden large gatherings. Camryn, living off-campus, agreed to let a mutual friend host a birthday party at her apartment. Little did she know, she'd be hosting the party of her future husband. That night they clicked. Camryn was attracted to RJ immediately. RJ thought she was gorgeous and was drawn to her cool and calm energy. Their introduction was cut short — the very next day Camryn went home for winter break and RJ returned to his family too. They wouldn't see each other again for six weeks. Excited to reunite, they eventually returned to DU and picked up right where they left off. From there on out, they stuck together like glue spending countless time together. But distance threatened their bond again. RJ would leave Colorado to spend months in Scotland, while Camryn would study abroad in Spain. This made them apprehensive to start a relationship. However, despite the distance, time zones, and living worlds apart, they stayed connected. They both returned to DU in January 2022. FINALLY after more than a year of getting to know each other and becoming best friends, RJ asked Camryn to be his girlfriend!
Camryn and RJ drove from Denver, Colorado to Washington, DC in February 2025 to move Camryn. As Camryn was getting settled in DC, RJ was back in Colorado ring shopping and planning for the rest of their lives. With the help of each of their best friends, he coordinated a surprise engagement. Surrounded by enchanting cherry blossoms, RJ proposed at the National Arboretum on March 29th, 2025.
