An Extra Ticket

During a beautiful summer Saturday in Chicago, Therese and her friends were sipping margaritas at Big Star in Wicker Park. As the afternoon came to an end, friends Ashley, Nathan, Ben and Celia were able to convince her to cancel her evening plans and come with them to a concert at Wrigley Field. A friend of theirs had an extra ticket. Drew's career working for the Chicago Cubs has had a few perks, though no one could have guessed that an extra ticket to a Nelly and Backstreet Boys concert would prove to be the most life changing! Always dressed in theme, Drew laced up his new custom Air Force One sneakers for the big show. However, when Therese walked into the room an awestruck Drew quickly changed into a slightly more subtle outfit. The couple shared their first kiss that night underneath the lights at Wrigley Field, but somehow Drew let Therese leave without asking for her number…. He was too busy doing damage control at the Backstreet Boys aftershow. Therese woke up the following morning to a message from a very resourceful Drew wondering when he could see her next. Since that night the two have shared over four unforgettable years together that included the completion of medical school and a MBA program, the beginning of residency, and various travels to all corners of the country and world. On June 26, 2021, Therese woke up after working a night shift to a very different surprise; not only had she slept through a tornado, but Drew wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He proposed on their rooftop in the rain with the help of their friends and family. And of course, fireworks!

The Northwoods

The Northwoods has been a special place for Drew and his family since he was child. Drew’s uncle, Cal Steinhoff, brought the Johnson family to Camp Wipigaki in Lac Du Flambeau in the early 2000s, a place where he had traveled with this family for over 60 years. In 2005, the Johnson’s bought a 1950s style cabin on White Sand Lake with a killer sunset view! The true Camp Johnson was born and the fun has gained momentum for over a decade with bonfires, water skiing, fishing, canoe trips, cross country ski treks, birthdays, anniversaries, and golf tournaments which have been at the heart of so many celebrations over the years. Memories of the upper Midwest in the Dunne family start with Nana. Therese’s grandmother was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota in the early 1900s. Her stories of steel mill moguls, exploring the GunFlint trail, and discovering uncharted lakes have been the stuff of family lore and intrigue for years. On the other side of the family, Therese’s grandparents, Jim and Norma Seri, spent their honeymoon in the Northwoods, and brought Laura back for what would be one of her most cherished childhood memories of a week spent in the Northwoods with her cousins. Little did Drew and Therese know when they chose Coon’s Franklin Lodge as the perfect location for their wedding, they weren’t the first in the family to discover it. Over 60 years prior, Nana had received a flyer in the mail for a family run resort on the shores of Trout Lake and on a trip back to Chicago from Duluth, Nana and Bill Dunne brought their first newborn son, Billy Dunne, Therese’s Uncle, to the resort for a few days of relaxation. Obviously, it was only fitting to make one of our biggest memories with all of you in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. We appreciate all of you making the journey north to celebrate our wedding with us. We know you will understand what a special place it is and can not wait to celebrate with you all!
