Maid of Honor
Jo and Kimmy have known each other since they were 9 years old. They grew up dancing together, but their friendship was solidified in early high school when a choreographer assigned them spots next to each other for a routine. They quickly bonded over their similar senses of humor (read: changing song lyrics and giggling uncontrollably about it) and are still regularly quoting jokes from their tweenage years to this day. Early on, Kimmy surpassed being Jo's best friend and became her sister. From getting their drivers licenses, to renting their first post-college apartment together, to creating a home base in Baltimore, Jo feels enormously lucky to have Kimmy as her chosen family for so many milestones and through every season of life. Kimmy is as genuine as she is quick-witted, and she effortlessly brings vibrant, warm energy into any situation. Kimmy and her husband, Chris, share the same sense of adventure and love for the outdoors as Jo and Sam, and they’re so excited to all take a hiking trip to Banff later this summer.
Jared Kaplan
Best Man
Jared and Sam met in PT school. Their casual friendship was kicked up a notch when they both needed to retake a practical exam to avoid being dropped from the program (yes, it was that cutthroat). Jared and Sam spent a dizzying number of hours together studying for their retake. To put it lightly, this situation was extremely stressful and anxiety-inducing, but these pressure cooker conditions proved catalytic to their friendship as they realized they could rely on each other and also loved being in each others’ company. Over the years, their friendship evolved and has become one of Sam’s most meaningful relationships. Jared is one of the most fiercely loyal and selfless people you’ll ever meet, and Sam can never thank him enough for all of the love and support he showed during the last few years of Sam’s dad’s life. Their friendship is equal parts purposeful mispronunciation of words, heart to hearts, YouTube videos, and musings about the uncertainty of space and time. Jared also lived with Jo and Sam during their clinical rotations and became an invaluable friend to them both.
Salena Jacob
Officiant
Salena also went to PT school at UD, and she and Jo lived together throughout grad school. Jo and Salena were destined to be friends, as Jo went to college with Salena’s sister which is how she recognized Salena at their PT school interview. Salena’s contagious laugh and hot takes made PT school so much more bearable, and the two enabled each others’ “treat yourself” mentality with weekly pizza and cookie nights. Salena had a front row seat to Jo and Sam’s situationship from the very beginning, and she was always a supportive advocate even when the two of them were still figuring it out. When they decided to plan a wedding, the first and easiest decision they made was to ask Salena to officiate, and they were so honored that she agreed! Salena has been an incredible friend to both Jo and Sam, and she has the biggest heart of anyone they know (she is also a wildly talented singer-songwriter).
