That one time at camp...

September 2, 2018

It was David's last Tinder date. It was Elizabeth's first. Neither would go on another. David was spending a few years getting better acquainted with his grandparents' home state, Missouri, by working on a campaign for governor. Elizabeth had moved back a year prior to their fateful swiping to Teach for America in St. Louis Public Schools. Little did they know happenstance would bring them together at a wine bar/restaurant (emphasis on the bar). They spent their Sundays going to brunch, their nights seeing bands like Punch Brothers, and their weeks trying to make dinner before passing out from exhaustion. After the dogs, Millie and Gideon, gave their approval, they moved in together (Actually, David moved everything by himself, with the help of a friend, because Elizabeth was taking five weeks to explore the Dominican Republic). It was comfortable, relatively easy, and the only real obstacle was Gideon's various injuries, and, well, bathroom issues. Thankfully, Elizabeth set him straight. Fast forward, 2016 happened (no need to rehash that fall - seriously, don't bring it up), David got a job working on a campaign in Virginia, and Elizabeth moved out later that spring. Realizing they actually kinda liked living in D.C., they bought a house, figured out a routine, and now they are taking that next leap. Elizabeth had been dropping not-so-subtle hints for months. The scene was DCA airport. The destination was Camp Thunderbird, Bemidji, Minnesota. The weather was dicy somewhere in the continental United States. After their flight was delayed for the third time, David frantically began asking how to get to Minneapolis that evening. Elizabeth booked a flight from Baltimore, and despite the headaches, they made it to camp. The rest was as you imagine. Double rainbow. Sunset. Privacy in the Council Fire area. And a bended knee. You know the rest because you're reading this, and we can't wait to celebrate with you.
