What is a dry camp?

Answer

A dry camp means that there is no running water. Everyone is required to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and hygiene. It is recommended that each person brings 2-3 gallons per day. Each couple should have a minimum of 5 gallons. There is a refill station ~1.5 miles away at the ranger station when entering. We'll be at the group campsites G04-G07 at Indian Cove Campgrounds in Joshua Tree. You will need the other camp essentials (see list below) to make your stay comfortable.

Do I need a 4x4 vehicle to get there?

Answer

No, the campsites are easily accessible. There is a small portion that will be on a semi paved dirt road but most/all vehicles should be able to make it to the campsite without any problems.

What will I need to bring?

1. Camping Gear: * Tent: Rentable at REI. * Sleeping bag or bedding. * Air mattress or sleeping pad. ** Camping chairs: Other than a few picnic tables, there are no chairs. Please bring your own. * Blanket: Stay cozy by the campfire. 2. Water: * We recommend a minimum of 5 gallons of water per couple. 3. Clothing: * Comfortable outdoor attire: Dress in layers appropriate for the weather. * Insulated jacket or thick coat for night time. 4. Personal Essentials: * Toiletries: Bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and any other personal hygiene items. * Sunscreen and insect repellent. 5. Food and Beverages: * Potluck dish: Prepare your contribution for the shared meal. * Snacks. * Drinks. * Cookware/Stove (if needed). 6. Outdoor Essentials: * Flashlight or headlamp. * First aid kit. * Trash bags: Pack out what you pack in to keep the environment clean. 7. Other Considerations: * Directions and maps: Ensure you have directions to the venue (you can download an offline Google map of the area beforehand). * Cellphone coverage may be limited.

What is the Dress Code?

What can I bring for the potluck?

Answer

Anything your heart desires. It can be home made or store bought. We are asking all guest to bring a plate/dish to serve 8-12 people. Your dish does not have to provide for everyone in the party. We have will have a list of items people will be bringing so that we do not have too much of any particular item. This list will be updated on the Potluck page as submissions are received. Please keep into consideration if your item needs to be refrigerated, or heated prior to being served. We will have a few stoves and grills available. Don't try to get too fancy and make it easy on yourselves. Some non-food items to consider are alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, ice, firewood.

What will the weather be like?

In November, Joshua Tree National Park typically experiences mild to moderate temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night. Here's what you can generally expect: 1. Daytime Temperatures: Daytime temperatures in November typically range from the mid-60s to mid-70s Fahrenheit. It can occasionally reach into the low 80s Fahrenheit on warmer days.
 2. Nighttime Temperatures: Nights in November tend to be cooler, with temperatures dropping into the 40s to 50s Fahrenheit. It's not uncommon for temperatures to dip even lower, especially later in the month.
 3. Wind: Wind can be a factor in Joshua Tree, especially in the fall and winter months. While November typically sees moderate winds, gusts can occasionally be stronger, particularly during storms or frontal passages.
 Overall, November is a popular time to visit Joshua Tree National Park due to the pleasant temperatures and beautiful desert landscapes. Are there nearby stores, restaurants and gas stations?

Answer

Yes, Joshua Tree is located just outside of Twenty-nine Palms. There are many grocery stores (Vons, Stater Bros & Walmart), coffee shops, restaurants and gas stations there. It is about 20 minutes away from the campgrounds. You will be driving through this area in order to reach the campgrounds.

Do I need to camp overnight?

Answer

No, of course not. However, we strongly advise against driving under the influence. Please make travel arrangements prior if you plan to travel home. There are also nearby Airbnbs and motels you can Uber to.
