Tyler and Cammye met at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS during graduate school training. A student in a previous cohort threw a welcome party for the new graduate students, where Tyler and Cammye would interact for the first time. The mostly 20-somethings sat in a circle to play King's Cup. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for Cammye, fine motor coordination is not a strength and she lost both rounds. She grimaced as she already did not want the first drink. To her immediate left, Tyler spoke up and offered to take the beer for her to prevent a party penalty. The conversation flowed naturally from there. The two bonded over stressful class projects, went out on Mass street with friends, and walked Odin together. Over the next year, the two realized they wanted to be near each other everyday and that perhaps this was more than "just friends." In March 2020, forced lockdowns resulted in Cammye returning home to attend courses virtually, not knowing how long it would last. After a couple of months, the pair reunited in Lawrence and realized how the fondness had only grown in the time apart. From strangers, to best friends, to planning the future together: the origin story of Tyler and Cammye.
T&C's first date was a picnic at South Park in Lawrence, KS. Tyler asked Cammye to be his girlfriend, and she hesitantly declined. She quickly regretted the decision, and so asked Tyler out on another date within a couple of days. After the following date, Cammye asked Tyler to be her boyfriend; he teased at first, but accepted. The two have been together since.
After more than 3 years together, Tyler surprised Cammye with an all expense paid trip to Yellowstone National Park. At Artist's Point in the park, the tour group stopped to look over the cliff at the waterfall to admire a rainbow. When Cammye turned around, Tyler took her hands before bending down on one knee.
