Camille and I met in the fourth grade when my family started attending a new church. She has always been the friendliest and most outgoing person I've known, so whenever there were new faces, she would make sure to introduce herself. With both of us growing up homeschooled and being among the youngest in our families, it was easy to find things we had in common. Since we were so young, neither of us had phones yet, but we wanted to keep in touch, so we began emailing back and forth using our home computers. I had such a big crush on her throughout most of middle school and high school, but I valued her friendship too much to ask her out and risk making things awkward. Since we were both homeschooled, we would end up at many of the same functions together—everything from school dances to homeschool day at Six Flags. In our junior year of high school, Camille switched churches to attend a ministry school, and I began working full-time to start building a career. We lost touch for a few years as she went to Dallas Baptist University and I continued my career in McKinney. Six years later, in the last few months of her senior year of college, Camille felt a pull from the Lord to reach out to people who had been there for her in the past, and I was very lucky to be on the other side of that message. We met for dinner on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022. I asked if she wanted me to pick her up, giving her the option of car or motorcycle. She picked motorcycle, and from that moment, I knew we would get married one day. We had a very sweet friend-date and then texted for a few days before both of us got busy and lost communication again. After that dinner, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I would call my friends and talk about how sweet she had always been in high school and tell them about her accomplishments during her years in ministry school and college. Two months later, I sent her a text asking if I could call her. When we spoke, I asked if I could take her on a date, and she said she’d think about it. Two days later, she called me and said, "I talked to my mom, and I want to know your intentions," and then agreed to go on a date with me. That night, I made dinner reservations for October 16th. She ended up getting sick on the day of our date, so I switched plans and brought her soup. We sat on her porch, carved pumpkins, and made plans for a second date the following week. We continued dating, and on December 16th, 2022, I asked her to be my girlfriend. Over the last two years together, we’ve both grown so much, and it has been amazing going through life with my best friend. I proposed on March 23rd, 2024, and we will be married on March 29th, 2025. Fourth-grade Nathan would never have believed it if you told him he'd be marrying Camille Betts.
