Rose Ceremony

A SIERRA LEONEAN “ROSE CEREMONY,” also known as a traditional West African “Knocking Ceremony” is a formal engagement where the groom’s family visits the bride’s family to ask for her hand in marriage. Rooted in Krio tradition, it represents the union of 2 families. Historically, this began with the groom’s family knocking on the bride’s door; today, it symbolizes a formal request for acceptance & blessing. During the ceremony, Dylan & his family will visit Camille’s family in search of the one “rose” in their garden—his bride.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The knock, declaration of intent, search for the rose, presentation of gifts & family acceptance, followed by a celebration with Afrobeats, Dancehall & Soca.
FOOD: Portuguese & Traditional West African Bites
ATTIRE: Guests will wear coordinated Asoebi fabric selected by the couple, symbolizing unity. Fabric ($40) will be purchased from us & tailored into your own style—have fun & make it your own!
