We first met in 2015 at a conference for Hispanic Engineers held at the Facebook headquarters in California, both traveling over 2,000 miles to get there. Camila introduced herself to Alex, thinking this would just be a networking connection. It took three more summers for Camila and Alex to reconnect. Camila was working in Minneapolis, MN for the summer when Alex reached out saying that he was also living there, and they met up for tiki drinks by the Mississippi river. For the rest of the summer Alex showed Camila around the city by visiting museums, trying new food, and biking around the lakes. We ended up spending all summer together and decided to give long distance a try while Camila finished her last semester at Georgia Tech. It has been seven years since then, and we can’t imagine spending another summer without each other. We have accomplished a lot together in that time. We received 2-graduate degrees (each!), visited 5 countries and 14 states, moved across the country twice, and we still find time to cook together almost every night. After changing plans and working through nerves (Alex’s heart rate got up to 150 bpm), Alex proposed to Camila at a beautiful rooftop restaurant in Viejo San Juan, PR on January 7th, 2025. Now, we are excited to see what the future holds!
