During the (Peruvian) summer of 2020, a girl from Peru decided to escape the heat and chase a new adventure at a ski resort in America. Colorado was her dream destination, but the only spot left was in Pennsylvania. She never cared much for heat or sandy beaches—snow sounded just right. That same winter, a boy from Virginia who loved to snowboard was also looking for adventure. A buddy told him about a ski resort just a few hours away in Pennsylvania, and without hesitation, he signed up. Fate (but really, God) brought Ethan and Camila to Liberty Mountain Ski Resort. At a staff party, their paths crossed. He was smitten at first sight; she wasn’t quite so sure. But with time (and a lot of thoughtful persistence), he won her over. Before the season ended, he told her, “I’m going to marry you one day.” Life took them in different directions—Camila returned to Peru and Ethan reported to Parris Island to become a U.S. Marine. It could have been the end of their story, but instead, it was just the beginning. The next years were full of challenges: Marine Corps training and deployment for him, medical school and a year-long internship for her—with plenty of FaceTimes, phone calls, and lots of extended visits from Peru to the U.S. in the midst of it all. Yet, in spite of the challenges and obstacles, their bond only grew stronger. On March 8, 2024, Ethan proposed to Camila in Lima—on a beach. The girl from Peru who loves the cold said “yes” to the Marine whose duty stations will usually keep him near the heat and the sand. On October 25, 2025, we’ll celebrate the love story that began on a snowy mountain in Pennsylvania. And for us, it’s been worth every mile, every season, and every wait.
