Cartagena

With year-round sunny skies, colorful colonial architecture and a wealth of Afro-Colombian culture to explore, Cartagena may be the most touristic city in Colombia. Cartagena has a tropical Caribbean climate, with an average maximum temperature around 30C (86F) all year. November, a period that encompasses the rainy season, we recommend you a poncho or a light waterproof jacket incase you encounter scattered short rain. The main airport, Rafael Nunez (CTG), is about a 20-minute drive from the city center. It’s important to have cash to take a taxi. There are a few places to exchange currency, as well as ATMs, inside the airport.

Con cielos soleados durante todo el año, una arquitectura colonial colorida y una gran cantidad de cultura afrocolombiana para explorar, Cartagena puede ser la ciudad más turística de Colombia. Cartagena tiene un clima tropical caribeño, con una temperatura máxima promedio de alrededor de 30C (86F) todo el año. Noviembre, un período que abarca la temporada de lluvias, le recomendamos un poncho o una chaqueta impermeable ligera en caso de que encuentre lluvias cortas dispersas. El aeropuerto principal, Rafael Núñez (CTG), está a unos 20 minutos en coche del centro de la ciudad. Es importante tener efectivo para tomar un taxi. Hay algunos lugares para cambiar moneda, así como cajeros automáticos, dentro del aeropuerto.

Discover Cartagena - What neighborhood to get your hotel in?

The Walled City or Old City The Old City, a Unesco World Heritage Site that retains 16th-century charm with cobblestone streets and colonial buildings painted in eye-catching colors. This area is ideal if you want to explore the city on foot, as there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars to enjoy live music and street performers. Our wedding venue, Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Hotel, will be located in this area. If you stay in this area, you will avoid taking taxis, as everything is at walking distance. While on vacation in Cartagena, Camilo and I spent the majority of the time in this area. It’s easy to get around on foot when exploring the Old City and Getsemani. Getsemani This edgy neighborhood is ideal if you want street art and a more local experience, while still being within walking distance of the Old City. Plaza de la Trinidad is the heart of this barrio, attracting a mix of locals and tourists who flock to Getsemani in the evening to enjoy live music, dancing, food and drinks. Camilo and I have stayed in two hotels in this area and loved being able to walk around the neighborhood, go shopping and eat at one of our favorite restaurants, Celele! BocaGrande Bocagrande is the primary beach neighborhood in Cartagena, because of the high-rise hotels and walking distance to the beach. This is an option for those who prefer a recognizable hotel chain. The beaches in Bocagrande are congested and frequently interrupted by beach vendors, which we recommend avoiding. Because Bocagrande is on the other side of town to the Old City, a taxi will be required for exploring sites in and getting to our wedding events. This also means contending with the Cartagena traffic. There are many hotels, hotel boutiques and Airbnb options for you to choose from. We’ve put together a few options for you to explore, some we’ve personally stayed at and others that have been recommend.

Descubre Cartagena - Zonas dónde hospedarte

La Ciudad Amurallada o Ciudad Vieja La Ciudad Vieja, Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco que conserva el encanto del siglo XVI con calles empedradas y edificios coloniales pintados en llamativos colores. Esta zona es ideal si quieres explorar la ciudad a pie, ya que hay muchos hoteles, restaurantes y bares para disfrutar de música en vivo y artistas callejeros. El lugar de celebración de nuestra boda es en el hotel Sofitel Legend Santa Clara, que está ubicado en esta área. Si te quedas en esta zona, evitarás tomar taxis, ya que todo está a poca distancia. Durante nuestras vacaciones pasamos mucho tiempo en esta área. Es fácil moverse a pie cuando se explora la Ciudad Vieja y Getsemaní. Getsemaní Este vecindario vanguardista es ideal si desea arte callejero y una experiencia más local, sin dejar de estar a una corta distancia a pie de la Ciudad Vieja. La Plaza de la Trinidad es el corazón de este barrio y atrae a una mezcla de locales y turistas que acuden en masa a Getsemaní por la noche para disfrutar de música en vivo, baile, comidas y bebidas. Camilo y yo nos hemos alojado en dos hoteles de esta zona y nos encantó poder pasear por el barrio, ir de compras y comer en uno de nuestros restaurantes favoritos, ¡Celele! Boca Grande Bocagrande es el principal área de playa en Cartagena, debido a la zona hotelera y corta distancia a la playa. Esta es una opción para aquellos que prefieren una cadena hotelera reconocible. Las playas de Bocagrande están congestionadas y frecuentemente interrumpidas por vendedores ambulantes, lo que recomendamos evitar. Debido a que Bocagrande está al otro lado de la Ciudad Vieja, se requerirá un taxi para explorar los sitios y llegar a nuestros eventos de boda. Esto también significa lidiar con el tráfico de Cartagena. Hay muchos hoteles, hoteles boutiques y opciones de Airbnb para que elijas. Airbnb is a very affordable option in Cartagena. Our wedding will be held at the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Hotel, located inside The Walled City, (Cuidad Amurallada) and there are many great Airbnb's in that area that are at a walking distance.
