Question

Traveling to Guatemala

Answer

Travelers should have at least 6 months of validity remaining on their passports or they may be turned back by the airline or immigration. Tourist visa is not required for a stay up to 90 days. No vaccines are required to enter Guatemala. If you have any questions, please contact your embassy. During your flight, you will be given forms for Immigration & Customs. Please be sure to have them completed before exiting the plane (don't forget your pen!). The forms will require a passport number, flight number, length of stay, and address of stay. Please mark "Turismo" as the reason for travel.

Question

Currency

Answer

The currency in Guatemala is the Quetzal (Approx. Q7.7 to $1.00). Most places in Guatemala accept U.S. Dollars. However, if you decide to pay cash, make sure the bills have no tears or marks on them, as retailers are sometimes very strict about this. Also if you bring $ be sure to have $10, $5 and $1 bills since $20+ they most likely wont receive them. Major credit cards are also widely accepted in Guatemala (look into foreign transaction fees). If you wish to exchange currency, the safest way is at the airport, local bank, or ATM.
