How We Met

First came a swipe right… then came the rest of our lives.

Like a lot of modern love stories, ours started with a swipe—romantic, right? We matched on a dating app, and somewhere between “hey” and “so what do you do?” we realized we actually liked each other (which, if you’ve ever been on a dating app, you know is saying something). At the time, Cameron was working in Greer, and I (McKenna) was busy being a nurse—starting in Tucson, moving back home to Morenci, and then finding my way right back to Tucson… because life apparently had a plan all along. Since Cameron worked every other weekend, our relationship didn’t begin with traditional dates. It started with long phone calls and texts—like, really long texts—getting to know each other one conversation at a time. Somewhere between the laughs, the late-night talks, and learning each other’s hearts, something real started to grow. Eventually, Cameron started making the drive to see me on his weekends off (every other weekend, like clockwork), and those visits quickly became our favorite thing. What started as a swipe turned into something steady, something safe, and something we never wanted to be without. We both spent a long time waiting for the right person—wondering if maybe it just wasn’t going to happen the way we hoped. But somehow, through timing that didn’t make sense and distance that should have made things harder, we found each other anyway. And now, looking back, every step, every move, every wait… led us here. And while we might joke that it all started with a dating app, the truth is we found exactly what we were looking for. And yes… it was absolutely worth the wait because we wouldn’t change a single thing.

Our Engagement

Just another lake day… until it wasn’t.

Some of our favorite memories together have been at the lake house. The very first time I met Cameron’s family was there over Thanksgiving, and since then, it’s become our place—where we spend most of our weekends, especially in the summer. So when we headed out to Apache Lake one weekend, I didn’t think anything of it. It was just another day at one of our favorite places, doing what we love, surrounded by the people who mean the most to us. Except… it wasn’t just another day. What I didn’t realize was that Cameron had been planning something I never saw coming. I was completely and totally surprised (which is not easy to do). I found myself in the middle of one of the most special moments of our lives—with the lake behind us, our families around us, and the kind of happiness you don’t quite have words for. It was perfect in a way that felt so us—simple, meaningful, and surrounded by love. The place that had already held so many memories for us became the place where we decided forever. And somehow, the surprise made it even sweeter.
