HIKING!!!! First, learn about poison oak. Study what it looks like so you can identify it on the trail and not touch it :) At this time of year their leaves can stick out on to the trail and touch your legs. If your shoes or pants touch it, make sure to not touch those until you’ve washed them. OK - now go forth and enjoy the beautiful hikes we love here <3 Chimney Rock * 2 miles out-and-back * easy/moderate * scenic views of Drakes + Pacific Ocean McClure’s Beach * short (0.5 miles) but steepish hike with stunning ocean/coast views Abbott’s Lagoon * easy, short (1 mile) * mostly flat * lagoon + beach views * good bird watching Tomales Point / Tomales Point Trailhead * LONG + HARD (up + down) (9 miles out and back) * beautiful sweeping views of Pacific + Tomales Bay + coastal + ELK! Kehoe Beach / Kehoe Beach Trailhead * mostly flat (1.0 mile) * could be a short hike vs. a beach day 😊 * beautiful dune + coastal pacific views
Laguna Trailhead → Coast Camp * approx 2 miles (4 miles round trip) and can be made into a loop (5 miles) if you return via Coast trail. * moderate/hard with several steep pitchy parts esp along Laguna Trail.
Drake’s Estero Trailhead * Can even drive out here just for the incredible views even if you do not want to walk it * 1.5 miles (for 3 miles total) to get to the more sweeping views of Drakes Estero * 3.5 miles (7.0 miles round trip) to get all the way to the peninsula * both are moderately strenuous Earthquake loop (park at Bear Valley Visitor Center) * Easy short walk, 0.6 miles, all flat Bear Valley Trail out and back * Can make it as short or as long as you like on this easy trail! * Even just a 2 mile out and back will give you beautiful red wood trees along a cool stream. * Can take this all the way to the water (4.5 miles for 9 mile total), middle point being coast trail. Bear valley alternatives * Can turn into longer and more strenuous loops using the following trails: Wittenburg, meadow, sky, old pine Sky Trailhead * mostly long loops + strenuous hikes leave from this trailhead
