How We Met

We met while working at our first big boy/big girl jobs, as technicians at a forensic toxicology lab in Boulder. Cameron was one of the interviewers for Caley at likely (hopefully) the strangest work interview she will ever have. In between Cameron explaining his plan to break up with his current girlfriend and seemingly random questions that had nothing to do with the job, Caley managed to impress with her dazzling scientific prowess. Or maybe it was because she name-dropped "Magic: The Gathering", the most popular hobby within the company and Cameron's latest obsession. We'll never truly know, but it worked and she got the job!! What followed was 3 years of working together - cursing at the same analytical equipment, annoying each other with their over or under use of caps lock, and trying not to vomit from the overwhelming smell of urine samples - followed by another 4 years of hanging out as friends with a tight knit group of current and former coworkers. Eventually, we wised up and realized how much we loved spending time together and started dating. We made it official just in time to go long distance when Cameron left on his 6-month road trip around the Western US.

The Proposal

On December 3rd, 2022 Cameron planned an early morning hike for us up Green Mountain with our mutt, Hecks. What could be better?! The game plan was to meet our friends, Jenni and Gina, at the top of the mountain as this hike would cap off a training challenge for Gina of climbing 1 million vertical feet in 2022. While they hiked up one side of Green Mountain from the typical hiking trailhead, we ascended from our newly purchased home nestled in the foothills of this scenic mountain. We enjoyed a cold, somber morning hike, mostly in the dark, with only the company of one another. When we finally met our friends at the top (with near perfect timing) champagne was broken out as we celebrated Gina's achievement. It was the perfect way to spend a morning, but then it became even more perfect. After the first bottle of champagne had been poured, red solo cups still in hand, Cameron went down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful green sapphire ring which he had custom designed. Then the better champagne came out! Apparently, this was the real celebration that was planned all along. And the moment, just after sunrise atop our new home mountain, was captured in pictures by Jenni so we could remember it forever.
