We both took a chance and joined a local kickball team through a mutual friend. I was pretty nervous that first day—I’m not exactly the most outgoing person—but Cameron was so friendly and easygoing that he immediately made me feel comfortable. After the game, all the teams headed to a bar called Miller’s in Watertown to hang out, play games, and grab a few drinks. Cameron and I ended up talking the whole night. At one point, he invited me to check out his motorcycle and even offered me a ride home. What I didn’t know then was that he’d actually gone home between the game and the bar to grab an extra helmet—just in case I said yes. I already had a friend on the way to pick me up, so I had to turn him down, but we exchanged numbers before I left. He also paid for my drinks that night, and I remember walking away with such a good feeling about him. From that night on, we talked every day, and before long, things became more serious. Cameron was amazing with Madison from the start, and we both quickly fell in love with his family. His mom, Jacqui, would host these big brunches by the river for us and Cameron’s friends, and I felt more at home than I ever expected. A year and a half later, we moved in together—and it’s been an incredible ride ever since.
