Cameron and I officially met in September 2023, Cameron had been serving as a middle school youth leader for the last school season, and I was serving in the belong ministry. Someone pulled me aside and asked if I wanted to serve in youth ministry. And with no experience I decided to jump right in. I (Cameron) remember when Ashley walked in for her first Sunday of youth group. She sat down at a table I was at and immediately got asked if she wanted her hair braided by one of the middle school girls. I remember seeing how she lovingly navigated not wanting to get lice and a few flashes of her smile and laugh and going “woah, this girl's got my attention”. Well it didn’t hurt that Ashley is absolutely gorgeous and I had served in youth group for a while so I knew it wasn’t every day a new beautiful leader joined. (Ashley) Cameron was the only leader that stayed after group and chatted with the middle schoolers until their parents came to pick them up. I really fell for his "gentle-giant" spirit, I mean it’s not everyday you find a handsome man that is 6 foot 1 and has a heart for children! Our story has a fun little beginning and my personal favorite part to share. In our conversations over the next few months and through the friendship that grew we learned we grew up at the same church in the Renton Highlands. We discovered our story starts 18 years ago in a church basketball gym! Some of you know that I was a cheerleader in elementary school and many of you know Cameron played basketball. Turns out we both played on Upward teams! Odds are I probably cheered for one of his basketball games in 1st and 2nd grade.
