We met, as Kate likes to joke, "the old-fashioned way"—on a dating app called Hinge. Kate made the first move by liking one of Cal's prompts about the Renaissance Faire, which led to hours of messaging back and forth and an impromptu first date just two days later. Kate fell for Cal on their first date when he admitted he was nervous after accidentally dropping part of his burrito on his shirt during their date. Cal also fell for Kate that day when she declared that she identified with a banana in a fruit basket that was part of a porcelain picnic scene at an antique mall. From these silly beginnings, we've built a relationship rooted in open communication, mutual support, and plenty of laughter.
