Haley was attending Indiana University, where she was roommates with Scott's twin sister. Scott, who was attending Purdue University at the time, came to visit his sister one weekend. When Haley saw Scott shoveling his face with Little Caesar's pizza, she knew it was love at first sight. After eating two or three pieces of her carrot cake, Scott knew he could not live without her. Haley remembers her mom asking "Does he like you?," to which Haley responded "Eh, probably not." A few weeks later, they went on their first date and they've been together ever since.
One of the first television shows Scott and Haley watched together was "How I Met Your Mother." The proposal was inspired by a "play" from one of the character's playbook called "The Robin." Scott wrote "The Haley," which read: "Step 1: Visit Indiana University to meet the girl you've been stalking on Facebook for months. Step 2: Get your foot stuck in an elevator door and awkwardly ask her to be your girlfriend. Step 3: Meet her family and hope they like you. Step 4: Introduce her to your family and pray they don't scare her away. Step 5: Taco Belle – Get talked into dressing up as a taco for Halloween and walking around Bloomington with Haley dressed as Princess Belle. Step 6: Move to Mishawaka, Indiana, and lie to her – 'You're going to love the snow!' Step 7: Move to Mount Carmel, Illinois, because she, in fact, did not love the snow. Step 8: Make a pact with her on Valentine's Day that if you're both not married by the time you're 30, you should marry each other. Step 9: Haley goes crazy. Step 10: Move to Kokomo, Indiana, so you can take it fast or take it slow. Step 11: You've been taking it slow for almost 4 years... Maybe it's time to speed things up. Step 12: Get down on one knee and hope she says yes..."
On our special day, we hope you — our family and friends — can understand and respect our decision to keep our wedding small. In order to accomplish this, our wedding will be for adults only. Take the night off, hire a babysitter, and celebrate with us. Nashville, Indiana, is a beautiful small town, so stay for the whole weekend and enjoy the fall scenery and dozens of cute shops in town. Also, instead of having a traditional wedding registry, we ask you to gift us with your presence. Although, if you would like to gift us with a present, we will accept monetary contributions for the purchase of our future home together. If you have any questions leading up to the big day, do not hesitate to call, text or email us, and we will do our best to answer them.
