FAQs

The Wedding Website of Callie Bussell and Daniel Santillana
Question

Where the f*ck are we going?

Answer

Santiago de Compostela is located in Galicia, a northern province in Spain. It is home to the world famous St. James Cathedral. There is a bevy of historical monuments, sites, museums to explore as well as accessibility to venture out into the outlying towns and cities of Northwest Spain. There is a rich nightlife, plenty of bars and restaurants and shops, and so much history to explore and learn!

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We would like all final RSVP's by June 1st, 2024. If you do not RSVP by then, we cannot guarantee you a spot at the wedding! Plus you'll need the time to plan!

Question

What is the Camino de Santiago?

Answer

The Camino de Santiago is an ancient Catholic pilgrimage walked to commemorate St James. Millions of people have walked this route over a thousand years, leaving their doorsteps in Germany, meeting in Portugal, or taking the Primitivo route leaving from Oveido. There are dozens of routes one can take on the Camino. Our engagement ended our hike going the French Way, however your Camino truly starts wherever you are. The route ends in front of the St James Cathedral which is home to the remains of St James himself. Though Daniel and Callie are not Catholic, neither are thousands of others who hike this trail for countless reasons- some to walk off their grief, some to tune into nature, some to bond with family, and some just for bragging rights.

Question

What if I want to hike the Camino while I'm there?

Answer

Be our guest! In fact, we encourage it! But we are unfortunately unable to assist in the planning of your Camino. We would be happy to even meet you on the trail, but we wouldn't be able to help with your coordinating.

Question

I don't speak Spanish! How am I going to get by?

Answer

We learned much too late that Google translate is an absolute necessity. Since the Camino and Santiago attract so many different people from all over the world, google translate is everyone's best friend! Also, plenty of Spanish natives speak English. Additionally, if you speak any other European language, you're in luck as there are plenty of opportunities to use your knowledge! And we also recommend brushing up on some DuoLingo... at least to order your Vino Tinto!

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

We recommend staying with us at the NH Collection, however if you should want to divide up your stay in Santiago between some more historical options, please check out The Paradore, San Martin Pinario, or A Quinta da Auga. Please note transportation for each of these as well!

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Absolutely. As we are both gluten-free we will do our best to accommodate everyone. Just communicate with us!

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding?

Answer

Yes! We will be finishing our 5 day hike from Ferrol on Wednesday, November 27th. If you decide to arrive to the city before the 27th, we would love to have you finish our hike with us by meeting us outside of Santiago around 10AM and finishing the 45min to an hour walk to the Cathedral.

Question

What's the time difference in Santiago?

Answer

Santiago is 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time, so be prepared for some jet lag!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Statistically, the weather in Galicia in November is between 45 degrees F and 60 degrees F! Santiago has similar weather patterns to West Virginia or Kentucky! Barring weather, we do intend for our ceremony to be outside in the trees, so please note that as you plan for dress!

Question

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT NOVEMBER IN SPAIN!!!

Answer

We are fighting against the off season here as a lot of bars and hostels may be closed, but there will still be plenty of places to stay, eat, and celebrate!

Question

How much will this cost me?

Answer

Depending on how you like to travel, this can be a relatively cheaper adventure to Spain! We've found that the flight can be the most expensive part of the journey, and a lot of airlines work with payment plans such as Klarna or Affirm. We have used PayPal Pay Ahead which gave us 6 months to pay off the flight. Additionally, the costs in Spain tend to be lower than in the States and a lot of credit card companies will charge $0 exchange fees as well.

Question

What if I can't make it?

Answer

That's OKAY! We KNOW this is a big ask, to meet us on the other side of the world, but we truly can't imagine celebrating our love any other way. If you can't make it, we UNDERSTAND, and would love to celebrate with you another way.

Question

I'm overwhelmed by this! Help!

Answer

Call us! Callie: 734-558-8826 Daniel: 321-525-9769 We want to make this easy and possible for you. We love you!
