We started our Elopement trip spending the better part of a week exploring the North Island, shortly after Cyclone Gabriel hit. We only had one hiccup in travel plans and luckily our other planned destinations were out of harms way. We were MARRIED (!!) on Makara Beach, just outside of Wellington, New Zealand on a rainy and cold summer evening. It was pure magic and not another soul on the beach to be found. Our ceremony was short n' sweet with lots of laughs and a downpour of rain . We took lots of photos, drank champagne, and had our first dance to Trampled By Turtles, At Your Window. and then called it an evening and went back to our Airbnb to warm up by the wood stove, ate pizza and dessert, and watched a movie. We spent the rest of our time in New Zealand honeymooning on the South Island, hopping from Spot to spot. Myles got to surf a bit, we saw lots of seals, went to a bunch of National Parks, and started making our list of things we wanted to see and do next time we go back!
We met working at a ski shop in Bozeman, MT- the Round House! We were fast friends and stayed in touch after Myles moved away in 2016. Calina was on a road trip in the PNW in 2019 and decided to stop in Portland, Oregon for a weekend with Myles. That weekend was a life changer. Calina moved from Montana to Oregon 3 months later. We made our way across the country in Oct. 2021 to Portland, ME. Myles asked Calina to marry him in May 2022 while spring camping on an island overlooking Mt. Katahdin in Northern Maine. And as a cherry on top…we recently bought a 143 year old house in Biddeford, ME. We chose to elope in New Zealand February 23, 2023 and spent two weeks exploring the islands.
