We met at Rodizio Grill in Fort Collins. Cali trained Tristan on his first day and over the next year and a half of working together they quickly became best friends who did everything together, even shopping for furniture for Cali's apartment. After a year and a half of friendship, Tristan told Cali that he liked her, so they decided to give it a chance. Tristan had feelings for Cali long before she realized she did as well (despite Tristan making it abundantly obvious to everyone but her).

On Tristan's birthday in 2024, we had plans to go to a fancy dinner in Boulder CO, but Cali got food poisoning and we weren't able to make it. We rescheduled the dinner for about 2 weeks later, Cali planned the reservation, got a hotel room, wore a nice dress, etc. Thinking only that we were going to a nice dinner together. Tristan, seeing she had planned the perfect proposal without having any idea that a proposal was possible, took advantage and surprised her on the way to dinner with the ring. There was a scenic overlook on the way up to the restaurant we were dining at, and Tristan pulled over to "look at the leaves and the scenery." Cali refused to get out of the car at first because the path to the overlook was gravel, and she didn't want to mess up her heels. After finally giving in to Tristan asking her to get out of the car, even saying "are you proposing or something?" We walked to the end of the overlook, and Tristan popped the question with his sister waiting behind a tree to take pictures. Cali planned her own proposal and had no idea.
