Question

How do we get there?

Answer

The easiest way to get to Puerto Peñasco if you're coming from the US, is to fly into Phoenix! There are two major airports in Phoenix: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Mesa-Gateway International Airport. If you're flying Allegiant, you will fly into Mesa-Gateway International Airport. All other major airlines fly in and out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Once in Phoenix, it will be easiest to get to Puerto Peñasco by renting a car or by jumping in with someone who is driving from Phoenix. All major rental car agencies allow rental cars to drive across the border to Puerto Peñasco.

Question

How long does it take to cross the border?

Answer

It depends-both on the direction you're going and the time of day/day of the week. Going into Mexico is a breeze. You will drive through a scanner which will give your car a green light or a red light, at random. If you get a red light, you stop. If you get a green light, you keep driving-not needing to stop for anything or anyone! Coming back into the states is where there are more variables. The border crossing that you will use to drive into Mexico to Puerto Peñasco is in a smaller town, so it is not as busy; however, the biggest dependency is time and day that you choose to cross. IF you go home Sunday, it will be busier than if you go home Monday or a subsequent weekday. Currently the Allegiant flight back to Montana on Sunday March 12th, is at 1pm. This would mean we recommend leaving Sayulita around 6:00am to give enough time to cross the border, should there be a line, and to get to Mesa-Gateway airport which is on the East side of Phoenix. You will come back into Phoenix from Mexico on the West side. If you fly later evening Sunday, or Monday, you would need to fly a different airline which would put you out of Phoenix Sky Harbor. Sky Harbor is more on the West side of Phoenix so you don't have to factor in as much travel time. Customs and Border Patrol does have an app that gives you real time updates on wait times at the border. The border crossing that you will be driving through is: Lukeville Port of Entry

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

You don't! As this will be a land crossing, you may also travel with a passport card! Passport is best but passport card will work! It is possible, sometimes, to pass with your Drivers License, so long as it is a Real ID; however, we still recommend getting your passport card or passport. If you have had a passport but it needs to be renewed, you may be able to do it via mail, through this link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/renew.html If you have never had a passport, this link has a lot of good information: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport.html Your local post office is also one of the easiest places to renew or obtain a passport and answer any questions you may have!

Question

How long does it take to get a US passport?

Answer

Currently the Department of State is reporting 10-12 week turn around on passports. If you pay to have it expedited, the turn around time is 4-6 weeks. 12 weeks before March 11th is December 17th. With the many delays in the mailing system, it may take longer than the predicted wait times for your passport to arrive.

Question

Is the wedding at a resort and is there a hotel block?

Answer

No, the wedding is not at a resort. The wedding is at a hacienda that we have rented with our families. There is not a hotel block reserved for the wedding. We are recommending staying in one of the awesome vacation rentals available in Puerto Peñasco. If resort stays are more your style there are some options in Puerto Peñasco as well.
