The Icelandic weather in June is the official beginning of summertime. In the same vein, it is also the entrance of crazy and vivid greens back in Iceland! The longest day of the year is also part of June, being the 21st summer solstice. You’ll have an endless supply of daylight from 20-21.5 hours with it never fully getting “dark.” June temperatures and weather in Iceland offer up 44.1 -50°F.
You can check Iceland’s weather by visiting the official Icelandic Meteorological Office website at en.vedur.is. It provides up‑to‑date forecasts, maps, and alerts for every region.
Even in summer, Iceland’s weather can change quickly. June brings milder temperatures, long daylight hours, and the chance of both sunshine and rain. To stay comfortable, we recommend packing the following: Travel documents: Passport valid for at least six months, driver’s license if you plan to rent a car, and copies of flight and hotel confirmations. Clothing layers : Light base layers, sweaters, waterproof jacket, rain pants, and casual outfits suitable for layering. Temperatures are generally cool, so bring clothes you can adjust easily. Footwear : Waterproof hiking boots for outdoor activities and a pair of dress shoes for dinners or wedding events. Accessories : Warm hat, scarf, gloves (nights can still be chilly), sunglasses, poncho or umbrella, and a travel adapter for charging devices. Special items : Swimsuit for hot springs, backpack for day trips, flashlight or headlamp (though daylight lasts nearly 24 hours), and plenty of socks. Yes. Iceland has strong cell coverage, and staying connected is straightforward. Most major U.S. carriers work there, though international roaming fees vary by plan. If you prefer a simple and affordable option, we recommend using GigSky, which we use for international travel. U.S. carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T‑Mobile function in Iceland, but costs depend on your plan. GigSky offers short‑term eSIM data plans that work on most modern phones. There’s no physical SIM to swap, and you can install the eSIM before leaving the U.S. It activates automatically when you land. Coverage is excellent in Reykjavík, the South Coast, and major towns. You may experience brief dead zones in remote areas, which is normal. The GigSky + Visa partnership does work in Iceland. The benefit applies in more than 175 countries, including Iceland. Depending on your Visa card type, you may receive complimentary data and discounts on additional plans. You can confirm eligibility directly in the GigSky app. You’ll have reliable service for navigation, messaging, and photos. For the easiest and most cost‑effective option, GigSky especially with an eligible Visa card is a great choice.
Driving in Iceland during summer is generally easier than in winter, but guests should still be prepared. You’ll drive on the right side of the road, keep headlights on at all times, and always wear seatbelts. Speed limits are strictly enforced (about 90 km/h on highways and 30 km/h in towns) with heavy fines for violations. Summer roads are more accessible, but they can still be narrow, gravelly, and unpredictable. Weather changes quickly, rain, fog, or strong winds can appear suddenly, so check daily conditions before heading out. Sheep and horses often wander near roads, so stay alert. Fuel stations can be sparse outside towns, so fill up whenever possible. Pumps require your card PIN, and common stations include N1, Olis, and Orkan. Off‑roading is illegal outside designated F‑roads, so stick to marked routes. For emergencies, dial 112. With caution and preparation, driving in June is a safe and beautiful way to explore Iceland during your stay.
While we would like to have everyone included in the ceremony, costs and space availability made us to make the difficult decision to only bring immediate family and wedding party on the jeep tour. The ceremony will take about 6-8 hours and their will be activities planned for guests, not on the jeep tour, to explore Vik and surrounding areas. Video will be taken of the ceremony and shown to everyone at the reception dinner.
If your invitation says "and Guest," then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.
For an Iceland wedding ceremony, guests should dress in layers with waterproof outerwear and sturdy boots. Think “boots and suits”: semi‑formal on top for photos, rugged on the bottom for comfort. Avoid jeans, shorts, heels, or anything that distracts from the couple.
Pack a small “go bag” for the adventure wedding. Include: - Layers (thermal tops, fleece leggings, waterproof jacket/pants) - Hat, gloves, extra socks, and hand warmers - Hiking boots or waterproof boots - Snacks and a refillable water bottle (Icelandic water is safe and delicious) - Sunglasses, chapstick, sunscreen, tissues, and any personal medications - Portable phone charger and camera This ensures you’ll stay comfortable no matter how the weather shifts.
