Caleb and I met for the first time on Thursday, January 12, 2023. He caught my eye when he friended me on Facebook and I made it a mission to meet this man next time I was in Georgia; and I did just that. Caleb was a bartender at a small wine bar in Atlanta and he had told me to come by and meet him. I was a nervous wreck but agreed to go. Once I arrived to, ‘Taste Wine Bar,’ I remember standing outside the glass doors to the entrance and I froze once I caught a glimpse of him. It was in that moment I wanted to throw up and chicken out and go back to the Airbnb. I was floored by how tall, dark, and handsome he was! After standing outside and giving myself a pep talk to not be awkward, I threw myself inside and took a seat at the bar he was working behind. I honestly could not tell you about the first 10 minutes of meeting him because I blacked out BUT I do know that I was not expecting him to be so funny and one of the friendliest people I had ever met; and did I mention tall, dark, and handsome? He was most definitely not shy; which was good because I tend to fill in silent moments with the most cringiest comments and remarks. Before I knew it I had been sitting at his bar and nervously drinking red wine until the place was closing. But the night was not over... Caleb had more in store for us that evening. It was karaoke time. After hearing about our next adventure I talked a big game that I am an incredible singer and will bring the house down to my go-to karaoke song, ‘Respect’ by Aretha Franklin. Feeling sorry for him I decided to let Caleb sing first. Which he sang ‘In Color’, by Jamie Johnson. After hearing him sing for the first 10 seconds I suddenly lost my confidence in singing and decided to distract him with my dance moves instead; because who is actually good at karaoke?? Caleb looked and sounded like he just got contracted by a producer in Nashville and I just don’t think that’s fair. You can’t be: funny, polite, tall, cute, have the muscles of a gladiator, AND BE A GOOD SINGER. It was clear God gave him an extra sprinkle of favoritism when creating him. Needless to say the night ended with me being called up by the DJ to go to the center of the dance floor. Typically loving being the center of attention I suddenly wanted to crawl under the table as the DJ called out, “Is there a Tessa in the audience?” Once fingers began to point towards me (which still confused how these complete strangers knew who I was) I quickly remarked back that, “I am not Tessa. My name is Ashley.” However, this was not slick and Caleb rolled his eyes and laughed. He grabbed my arm, took me to the center of the floor, dipped me, and gave me our first kiss like a scene out of a Romantic Comedy. And that is the night I met my husband.
