How we met

April 7, 2018

Taryn spent the morning taking the comprehensive exams for her graduate program. Afterwards, a friend from her cohort, Kris, had everyone over for a bbq. Caleb, who was a coworker and close friends with Kris and some of the other guys in the cohort was there. After playing some games and following each other on instagram, their story was put on pause until they both moved to Kansas City. In October, Taryn invited Caleb to her weekly trivia game with friends, and the rest is history...

The Engagement

February 29, 2020

In the longest and most elaborate plan of Caleb's life, it all starts in November with the purchase of the ring and formation of a plan. Originally starting as just a loose plan of Leap Day and a surprise party, it quickly turned into much more. Months of planning and booking of flights occurred before Taryn suggested we throw a Leap Day Party at Nick and Miranda's for our friend group. This of course, was exactly on plan, but little did she know what was actually in store. Fast-forward to the day of, Caleb and Taryn embarked on a day full of fun activities to kill time before the party. The day included breakfast and coffee, pizza for lunch, a book store, and the WWI Monument overlook for the proposal. Caleb told Taryn earlier in the week he needed a nice photo of the two of them for the Family Christmas Calendar and Taryn suggested the exact location he wanted for the "photo." Once there, Taryn and Caleb asked a random couple if they would mind taking their photo. The gentlemen took a few photos and then asked if they needed any others, Taryn quickly said, "no," but Caleb asked he could take one more and got down on one knee for the proposal. Photos like the main one on the website were caught by the stranger and Best Man Mitchell Hackman was incognito for the whole ordeal taking photos from a distance. After the proposal the couple headed towards the "Leap Day" party and after several phones calls, several unanswered phone calls, and a few QuikTrip stops to get the timing right, they made it to Nick and Miranda's. The couple was met by a few friends inside the house excited about the engagement. Taryn was told a few more friends had already arrived and were out back. She rushed outside and around the corner of the house excited to surprise her friends with the news, and instead was met by a backyard full of 40 of her closest friends, sisters, mom, and more surprise and shock than she could hardly deal with. It was the perfect leap day!

The Wedding

The wedding day was, as hoped, one of the happiest days of their lives. Taryn planned the wedding to have an outside ceremony and an inside reception but God had other plans. The rain stopped for about 2 hours as the family and bridal party photos were taken. After the short reprieve, the rain never stopped again. It poured and poured all day moving the wedding inside. Caleb and Taryn shared their vows as the rain thundered down on the metal rooftop causing quite the commotion. The reception was a full on dance party drowning out the sounds of the rain for the rest of the night. Caleb and Taryn are so excited to start their lives together and are so thankful for all their family and friends who have supported them through the years.
