How we met

From Blueprints to 'I do'

Like all great love stories, ours began... on a construction site, surrounded by dust, deadlines, and a whole lot of unfinished tile work. As a project manager at the time, I needed the best crew for the job, so I called my go-to-guy, Ben Barlow. But instead of showing up himself with his main crew he sent his brother, Caleb- who as it tuns out, wasn't just good at setting tile but also at stealing hearts. Caleb walked onto the site, all confidence and charm, and I thought, Great. Another contractor who thinks he's funny. Turns out, he WAS funny... and ridiculously good at his job, which was both impressive but slightly annoying. He laid tile like an actual pro, had a AMAZING arms, cracked jokes that really made me laugh and somehow managed to make job site chaos a little more fun. By the time the last tile was set, I realized we'd built something way more important than a finished project-we'd built the start of forever. So now we're making it official, Trading in our hard hats for wedding bands. - Shelby I never expected to meet the love of my life on a jobsite but fate had other plans. When i work I sweat, I mean really sweat. Shelby noticed and asked if I needed her to bring a fan. I said yes, because a fan would have been pretty nice. She left, and even though i saw her multiple times throughout the day, she never brought the fan. In fact, every time she returned she'd almost jump in surprise when she realized she had forgotten it, repromising once again to bring it next time. After several such near- misses, it become clear that the fan was never coming. It didnt take long for me to understand: the real "fan" was Shelby herself. The first time i saw Shelby, she stood out. Not only because she was the only woman on the jobsite who bossed me around, she was beautiful, she carried herself with confidence, grace, and a quiet strength that made everyone around her pay attention. When she walked in everyone would scramble and worked harder than they did when she wasn't in the room. As the PM of the job she seemed to have everything under control every detail, every schedule and challenge that came our way. She handled it with patience, kindness and determination like no other. Of course, I knew I had to get her attention somehow. So, while I was down on the floor setting tile, I made sure to flex my arms every chance I got. Every cut, every placement, every time I reached for thin set -I made sure she noticed. Lifting a heavy box of tile? Flex. Wiping off grout? Flex. Making sure my work was perfect? Well that part came naturally-but a little extra effort never hurt. Whether she noticed right away or not, I wasn't about to let this girl slip by. Somewhere between all the dreaded early AM site meetings, late night problem solving and all of the laughter between I found myself falling for her. Then one day I realized I wasn't just showing up to work any more I was showing up to see her. Shelby isn't just the woman I love she's my best friend, my business partner, mother of my beautiful children, my greatest adventure, and the person I want by my side for the rest of my life. -Caleb
