Our Story (stories)

His and Hers

(Hers) It was a Friday night on the 100 block. I was discussing my cleaning business with a girl friend and suddenly this stud with a mullet and mustache appears… “do you know about contingency fees?” (great pick up line, honey). It may have been the mullet and mustache combo or maybe his cheesy jokes, but I was intrigued. Our first date was that Monday, where we walked and talked for hours- the first of many occasions over the next month that solidified he’s the person I want to walk and talk with for the rest of my life. One month later, we went ring shopping. Six months after that, he popped the question - just the two of us standing in my kitchen, literally jumping with joy. As they say- when you know, you know. (His) The story started three years ago… although Rachel may not remember. My roommate at the time asked if I wanted to go to a tailgate that his sister invited him to. That’s where I first laid eyes on Rachel. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the courage to talk to her then, let alone make a move. Fast forward to August 29, 2025. I was at the bar celebrating a friends birthday. That’s when I saw her — Rachel Hecker. I remember thinking, “Is now finally the time?”, and I worked up the courage to talk to her. I asked about her business- probably bored her with cost analytics talk from my line of work- and somehow… it worked. What started as leaving the bar for a late-night Taco Bell run turned into playing piano like it was Guitar Hero to The Greatest Showman soundtrack and ending the night watching the movie together. Two days later, we had our first official date. The nerves were high, and the restaurant was so loud we could barely hear each other, but everything changed once we left dinner and walked around Omaha talking about life and sharing our faith. I still remember the smile I had on my face driving home that night. From then on, we were together almost every day. It didn’t take long for me to realize she was going to be my forever. The girl I never imagined I’d have a chance with at that tailgate three years ago is now going to be my wife. The love God has shown us through this relationship has been the greatest blessing, and I cannot wait to stand beside her and celebrate this covenant surrounded by all of you.
