Caleb & I met during my last semester of nursing school at UA in the fall of 2014. He was a nurse on the unit at Princeton where I did my preceptorship, and we later worked together. We became really good friends pretty quickly -- we had this instant connection where it felt like we knew each other forever. He was easy to talk to and was always making me laugh (that hasn't changed!). We dated on and off for a while, then he moved to Nashville to go to CRNA school. A couple years later, he texted me and we pretty much picked up where we left off. Flash forward to September 2019 -- we were heading to the lake for the weekend for Ashley's birthday, something we do every year. Saturday night we were heading to dinner (or so I thought), & we went to take a group picture outside before we left. I opened the door & my knees buckled because Caleb was standing on the dock at sunset, surrounded by candles and rose petals. He COMPLETELY caught me by surprise. Ashley literally had to push me outside because I was frozen in place. All I know is that I sobbed the entire way down to him, and it was the most perfect moment and perfect night. -leah
In 2014, I met the woman I now call my fiancée. I was immediately interested to find out more about the pretty girl who worked a shift with me... I was secretly hoping she'd take a nursing job on my unit (spoiler: she did!). Long story short, we were both seeing other people but we became good friends and talked nonstop. Eventually it led to us dating and creating some great memories. I soon got accepted into CRNA school in Nashville. As some young men do, I struggled with accepting that I might actually be in love with this girl. We eventually went our separate ways for a couple years, but I felt like I always knew I’d come back for her. I had to learn to live without the love of a great woman before I realized she’s what I needed all along. Fast forward, I woke up early one weekend and promised myself that I’d contact her again and ask her on a date. The rest is history and we picked back up right where we left off. I knew the night of November 1, 2018, that she was the woman I’d spend my life with. That was the first time we had seen each other in years. With the help of our friends I was somehow able to pull off a surprise engagement, despite Leah being the most nosey person I know. We disguised it as a lake weekend to celebrate her friend's birthday. Friends & family traveled from all over to be a part of our weekend, and let me tell you, that was stressful to hide and keep a surprise! Everyone had to turn off their locations on social media to keep her clueless (just as clueless as when she realizes my deer mounts are going to be on display in the living room). In all seriousness, I knew in that moment that words couldn't describe how I actually felt so I just got down on one knee! She cried just like I knew she would, and may or may not have said yes...but either way we are getting married! -caleb
