In August of 2019, Caleb and Evan met at Texas A&M University while enrolled in the same class. The class was structured around a group project that spanned the entire semester. Initially, Evan and Caleb were assigned to different teams. However, Caleb had other plans. Immediately after Evan presented her team’s project proposal, Caleb asked the professor to be placed on her team. Evan initially thought Caleb just admired her team’s presentation, and Caleb soon learned that Evan already had a boyfriend. Nonetheless, they became teammates and friends during that class, appreciating each other's hard work. When Covid-19 struck in the spring of 2020, everyone was quarantined at home, and Evan's past relationship came to a natural end. It wasn’t until the fall when Caleb and Evan returned to campus. Evan, reminiscing about the cute boy from her previous class, sent Caleb a text asking if he’d be willing to help her with an upcoming project. Their relationship had a humorous start, with Evan not realizing they were on their first date until Caleb insisted on paying for her dinner. On October 20th, 2020, Caleb invited Evan to dinner and a movie and officially asked her to be his girlfriend. It was fortunate timing for Caleb, as before leaving her apartment, Evan jokingly told her roommates, “If he doesn't ask me to be his girlfriend by the end of the date, I’ll hit him really hard.” The next three years were filled with countless hours spent at the animation lab together, endless dates, graduations, cross-country moves, new jobs, long-distance dating, adopting a stray cat, attending friends' and family's weddings, vacations, snowboarding trips, and everything in between. Both can be quite competitive, stubborn, and sarcastic, but through it all, they grew from being teammates in class, to teammates in life. In early December of 2023, Caleb flew down from Vancouver to San Francisco and proposed to Evan on Baker Beach in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. They are excited to plan their wedding, as well as Evan’s (and their cat “Baby Kitty”) move to Vancouver, where they plan to live. They have their honeymoon set on an Alaskan cruise, with plans to take a train through Denali National Park and up to Fairbanks in hopes of seeing the northern lights. Once back at home, they’ll continue to work in the animation field together and spend their free time snowboarding, hiking, swimming, cooking, and enjoying both good and bad movies together.
