Our Story

Chicken brought us together

Our story began at Chick-fil-A. Maddox started working there in 2020, and not long after, Caleb moved from Colorado to attend UNT. In August 2021, he took a part-time job at the same Chick-fil-A, and by chance, we crossed paths. We quickly became friends, spending time together both at work and outside of it, alongside a few of our coworkers. For the longest time, we had no idea that we liked each other. But everything changed on Maddox’s 18th birthday. She invited Caleb and a couple of friends to see Sonic 2 in theaters. We sat next to each other, and at that moment, something shifted—Maddox felt that maybe Caleb liked her back. That night, we started texting more, and Caleb mentioned how much he loved spending time with Maddox. But something still felt uncertain. Maddox told him it seemed like he was sending mixed signals. Caleb, not wanting any confusion between us, suggested we talk in person. So, the next day, April 16th, 2022, Maddox met him at Chick-fil-A after his shift. Standing there in the parking lot, with all the nervous excitement in the world, Caleb asked Maddox to be his girlfriend. And without hesitation, she said yes. That was the beginning of something truly special. Shortly after, distance became part of our story. Caleb left for the summer to visit family in Colorado, and when he returned for the school year, Maddox left for Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. For three years, we have navigated the challenges of long distances—countless FaceTime calls, long weekend drives, tearful goodbyes, and even sweeter reunions. It hasn’t always been easy, but through every mile and every moment apart, one thing remained certain—we were meant to be. God has been faithful through every challenge, guiding us, strengthening us, and reminding us that love like this is worth every sacrifice. Through it all, it was always you.
