The Beginning

One Saturday evening, David and I were standing around talking to mutual friends after church service let out. Later that week, David found me on Facebook and sent me a message asking me out on a date. For our first date we went to a French inspired cafe for dessert. We both got coffees with our dessert and specifically I got a latte. I was a bit nervous for our first date, as people usually are, but my nervousness stemmed from worry if David would find out too quickly that I was weird/goof ball and run away. Earlier I had noticed that he had tattoos and my inner monologue was as follows: "Oh no, he's a stone cold, cool guy with tattoos, I've never been out before with a guy that has tattoos, I'm not cool, I'm silly" Lol Well, that "really cool guy" turned out to be a "really sweet guy". Shifting back to the latte, I had received my latte drink in a house cup, not a to-go cup, and the house cup was rather large. I knew if I drank it with the foam on top that it would get on my upper lip and that would solidify my weirdness. All hopes of any ever after with cool tattoo guy could be jeopardized if he saw my upper lip covered in foam. All I had was a fork and I decided to save myself from imminent doom by scraping the foam off my latte with my fork. What I failed to realize was that scraping foam off my drink with a fork looked weird anyway. I hadn't gotten much foam off before I noticed David looking at me quizzically. He asked what I was doing and I told him I didn't want to get foam on my lip. Without hesitation, he got up, walked across the room, got a spoon, and came back to give it to me. If anyone asks me what got me to go out with him again, I would have to say it was that moment when he got me the spoon. What can I say Lol In all honesty, and setting silliness aside, that first date was really nice, we got along great, and I knew immediately that I wanted to go out with him again. It was the best first date and one of the best dates I had ever been on.

The Proposal

12.25.2018

It was the nearing the end of the year and I had the ring for a couple of months. I wanted to find the right moment to propose and thought Christmas with the family would be the best opportunity. She had no clue it was coming because I threw her off the day before when we I asked her to take a Christmas picture with me at the church. She asked me if I was proposing and I told her I hadn't even bought a ring yet. Christmas morning I was taking a shower and just like everyone else a great idea came to me in the shower. I went downstairs and asked my dad if he could make me 2 Scrabble tiles. In case you didn't know, my dad made a Scrabble board in the kitchen of everyone's names in our family. Kira’s name fit perfectly in it. It was like she was supposed to be part of my life. Anyways, my dad made me the tiles and we set them out to dry while the family arrived. The family came over and we handed out the presents. I let my sisters and mom know which present was “the one” so that they could get cameras ready. When it was Kira's turn to open my present she pulled out the tiles and had a confused look on her face. Then, I got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked her if she wanted to be a part of the family. She yelped and started crying. After what seemed like a full minute she finally said yes.
