Big, Big Plans by Chris Lane
Our journey began in 2009 as high school sweethearts. Cody and I started dating our freshman year of high school but we only dated briefly then before deciding to just be friends. Then during the summer leading up to our senior year, something changed. I was at Meijer one evening with my parents and, as we were walking around, I saw Cody walking in with a group of his friends. As soon as I saw him, I looked away acting like I didn't see him when all of a sudden I heard “Caity?”. Cody apparently had seen me and had approached me and my parents. I turned around and for the next few minutes we talked about each other’s plans for the night. The chance meeting didn’t seem significant at the time but, as the days went by, I couldn’t help but keep thinking about Cody, so much so that later that week I broke up with the boyfriend I had at the time. Word spread quickly of my break-up and, shortly thereafter, I received a random text from Cody asking me if I was really single. I confirmed that I was, in fact, single and was curious as to why he was asking since Cody had a girlfriend at the time. Much to my surprise, Cody broke up with his girlfriend later that week. What a coincidence! With both of us then single, Cody and I started to talk every day that summer. That was the summer of “Project Magella” (like the movie, Project X). Cody’s parents were supposed to be out of town one weekend that summer and Cody thought it would be a great idea to invite a few friends over for a pool party. Things didn’t go as planned however. At the last minute, Cody’s parents decided to stay home and Cody had no choice but to come clean with his parents about his party plans. Cody’s parents surprisingly agreed to host the party but, on the night of the party, they were shocked to see their neighborhood swarmed by high school kids looking for the Magella pool party. It was then that Cody realized that the invitation had accidentally been sent out to his ENTIRE friend list! Cody’s parents rolled with the unexpected turn of events and decided to order extra pizzas to feed the hungry crowd. Despite the huge crowd, Cody and I still managed to find our way to each other and have the time of our lives swimming and playing games with everyone. This was the first of so many times when we realized that we could have fun together no matter where we were and no matter who we were with. Also that summer was the annual St. Margaret of York festival. The festival took place on July 29, 2012 that year and Cody and I made plans to go together. We had a great time and did not want the night to end. Cody took me home from the festival and, instead of going inside, we went to my backyard and just laid under the stars talking for hours. Talking to one another came so easy for us. Once we realized how late it was, we said our good-byes but, before Cody left, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course, I said “Yes!” and the rest is history. Over the past ten years, Cody and I have shared so much together. We have had countless adventures and have been truly blessed with most supportive and fun-loving family and friends a couple could possibly have. We hope you’ll take some time to look through the photo gallery of some of our more memorable moments together so far. On July 29, 2022, Cody and I will each marry our best friend. That day will mark ten years of Cody and I together as a couple. My how time flies when you’re having fun! July 29 was also the wedding anniversary of Cody's late grandparents which makes that date even more special for us. Cody and I really hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating our special day with us. We can’t thank you enough for all the love, support and cherished memories you have given us over the years! We truly hope you enjoy the evening and look forward to creating many more unforgettable memories with you in the years to come. Bring on Project Magella 2.0!
October 16th, 2020 was the day we got engaged and also so happens to be my birthday. To help celebrate my birthday, I had invited a few friends and family to the Monkey Bar and Grill to have some drinks and listen to live music. Once everyone had arrived for the evening, one of my best friends, Anjelica, asked if I was ready to play a game. She walked me to the bar, ordered me a shot of my choice and proceeded to hand me a card to read. The card described the game as a scavenger hunt and I was to find the next clue card. I found card number 2 with my friend, Danielle, who also had a shot. I instantly turned around to Anjelica and said there is no way I am drinking shots back to back like this when I have not had dinner yet. She laughed and said that I would be fine. I proceeded to take the shot and found card number 3 with my friend, Christina. In that moment, I remember being slightly confused as to why I was the only one playing this game. I soon realized that this game was leading me to something special. I continued on to 3 more cards. After that, there were no more cards and no more shots. Thank God! The last card came from my sisters who were standing on the Loveland bike trail. After reading their card, they presented me with a scrapbook of pictures of me and Cody. I began to cry as I was looking through all the unforgettable memories. After looking through the scrapbook, I looked down the bike trail across the bridge to see Cody standing there with a bouquet of flowers. The tears came even harder. He had the bridge lined with flowers and candles. Once I got to him, he shared with me the speech he had prepared and then he POPPED THE QUESTION! It was the most perfect night I could have ever imagined. Hope you had a chance to see the video of our proposal above. A friend of ours actually recorded it : ) The video went viral on TIK TOK with over a million views and almost 200K likes! How cool!! So crazy!!
