The Proposal

11.02.19

In February of 2018, Colin and I had our first kiss in the middle of a bridge that overlooks the Kansas City skyline near Crown Center. Holiday lights were still up and lit our walk as we nervously held hands and almost got hit by oncoming traffic (sorry, Mom). It was FREEZING that night and we seemed to be the only ones crazy enough to be outside. As we walked back to our cars, a man’s voice announced over the Crown Center plaza that a light & fountain show would start in 30 seconds. We were the ONLY people in the plaza as the music started and the fountains began to dance in the lights. It was one hell of a way to start a relationship and I never thought we’d top that kind of magic on date night... until the night that Colin proposed. Colin had me convinced we were headed to a date night near Union Station. As we walked to our date, we started to cross the bridge where we had our first kiss. I saw a woman playing the guitar at the end of the bridge and quickly asked Colin if he had any cash for a tip (LOL). Then, I saw a photographer taking her photo and tell Colin "she might be famous." As we get closer to the musician, I start to hear our song playing: George Ogilvie’s “Birdsong.” Right when I recognized the song, the photographer pointed his camera toward us. THEN, it hits. “You are sh**in’ me?!” I push Colin and he grabs my hands and gets down on one knee. The guitarist is still playing our song, I am officially BAWLING, and neither of us have any idea what Colin said while he was down there... All we know is it ended with: “Of course I will.”
