We had always known of each other through friends of friends. Devin went to Eastridge and Caitlin went to Park (rival schools). Devin always thought Caitlin was cute, so he finally decided to pull the trigger and slide into her Facebook DM's saying 'Hey'. That's where he built up the courage to ask Caitlin for her number. From there we started talking and on and off for about a year. Crazily enough, we both wanted to apply to colleges in San Diego, and sure enough, that's where we both got accepted. So we moved out to San Diego, separately. We weren't officially dating at this point because we both wanted to do our own thing after the big move. However, things didn't go exactly as planned. We couldn't stay away from each other. We ended up making things official and haven't looked back since! Now, eight years later we're finally getting married!
Devin had been trying to figure out the perfect way to surprise me and propose for a while. He finally came up with the plan to take me on a ski trip up to Lutsen with our closest friends and propose. It was perfect! Or so he thought.. Unfortunately, I'm not the biggest skier/snowboarder and didn't want to go on a ski trip. I kept trying to tell Devin to just "have a boys trip". So that plan fell through. (Sorry, babe! If I had known you wanted to propose I would've gone in a second.) Skip to a month later.. One night when we were hanging out at home, I decided to make a run to the grocery store to grab some supplies for dinner. When I got home I noticed a snowmobile sitting in our driveway (I was confused because we definitely do not own a snowmobile).. When I got inside Devin told me he asked his parents to borrow theirs so he could take me out for a spin on our lake. Devin said, "Let's go for a quick spin right now!" But I was hesitant because I really wanted to make this new dinner recipe I had picked up so I said "Lets' just go tomorrow". However, he kept insisting so I caved (sorry I'm so difficult, B). So we got all ready and began our ride, which was a blast! After snowmobiling around the lake a few times, we pulled into our backyard which was a gorgeous setting that Devin had set up with a firepit, string lights, champagne, and a giant sign saying 'Will You Marry Me?". It was perfect and I was definitely surprised! He hopped off the snowmobile and got down on one knee. I was so shocked and excited I kind of blacked out what else he said.. But of course I said "Yes!" Honestly, it was perfect. And once again, sorry for being so difficult babe! Thanks for not giving up on me :)
