How We Met

Spring 2011

Let's take it back to the Spring of 2011 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Roll Tide). We had a mutual friend, Sam who made it his goal to have us meet. He sent numerous messages to Cait saying "Yo, has Lee texted you yet?" "You will get married one day" "We have a date party tonight, you should go with him." "Band party tonight, Lee will be there." Cait, reluctant because Lee had never personally reached out. She was unsure if this was just some joking scheme of Sam's. Cait and a few of her girlfriends did end up going to a band party at the infamous Sigma Chi band room that was known as Shabooms on a rainy night that Spring 2011 semester. She and Lee FINALLY met, but it wasnt until the following semester that things between them took off. After returning to Tuscaloosa that following Fall semester, our mutual friends began dating and our once separate friend groups merged into one. We spent more and more time together and grew closer with each date party, tailgate, or trip with friends.

The Proposal

October 3, 2019

Yes, October 3rd- Mean Girls day. Lee had secured the diamond the weekend prior in Charlotte. He had secretly planned a special weekend at Lake Toxaway and was going to pop the question there. However, the age old saying is true- the ring truly does burn a hole in your pocket. He couldn't keep it for any longer. It was a Thursday evening. The Astros were playing in the World Series playoff that night and we had planned to meet Lee's sister Ellen at Park Tavern to watch the game. Cait, flustered and in a rush after work to shower, get ready and head to the bar was soon stopped in her tracks as soon as she walked through the door. As Cait walked through she took notice to her favorite record playing (Cat Stevens), flowers, and champagne. In disbelief and somewhat confused, she looked up to see her soon to be fiance Lee walking towards the door to get on one knee. The whole moment was a blur, but Cait obviously said "YES" to forever with her person. We celebrated and took in every moment of that night with the best company- Cooper, and Hank. We continued our celebration with a relaxing weekend at the Greystone on Lake Toxaway.
