Kim and Steve met sophomore year of college when they joined the same project group in a Human Factors class. For the first year, they were only friends who saw each other in class and studied together. All that changed in junior year though, when they became BFFs and were basically inseparable. Kim knew they were going to be together forever even though they were just best friends...Steve finally got with the program and they started officially dating in May of junior year.
Just like that, college was over and they both graduated in spring 2013 with their Industrial and Systems Engineering degrees. The first few years were characterized by long distance, phone calls/texts, and too many short but sweet visits. Kim moved to Disney for the summer and then came back to Binghamton for grad classes in the fall. Steve began working on Long Island while taking grad classes on Saturdays in NYC. The long distance was not fun, especially with Steve only being free 1 day a week, making visits difficult. Cue another round of long distance as Kim went back to Disney in summer 2014 while Steve continued working on Long Island. That fall, Kim moved to Westchester NY and brought them within 1.5 hours of each other! Weekend visits were now much easier and more frequent. Steve followed his passion for IE in healthcare and found a position with Northern Westchester Hospital in spring 2015. Now they were only 15 minutes from each other! After grad school, Kim followed HER passion for IE in the service industry and found a position with JetBlue. With their careers finally started, spending more time together than apart, and realizing they were excellent travel partners, they decided to move in together in summer 2016. Living together only brought them closer as they made their little townhouse feel like a home.
Steve planned a surprise wine tour in the Finger Lakes during a long weekend upstate. Little did he know, Kim would almost ruin everything when she tried to volunteer at the airport for work on the same day of Steve's surprise. He had to tell her about the surprise so she wouldn't work, and Kim was worried she ruined a possible proposal. But he was quick on his feet and said he was planning to tell her before they went anyway, since he knew she would want to wear a cute outfit and do her hair. That did the trick, and she thought all she ruined was a wine tour! After a wine and chocolate pairing presentation (literally Kim's 2 favorite things), she was completely shocked when Steve asked her to marry him on the deck of Damiani's on Seneca Lake, where she sobbed on his shoulder for a good two minutes before saying yes and putting on the ring.
We are so excited for this stage in our lives, and so happy to share it with our wonderful family and friends! We can't wait to celebrate with you all in 2018!
