This is a shocking tale of heartbreak, happenstance, and the Holy Spirit. Cordell was working as an electrician in Colorado when he had a shocking life event: he got electrocuted! This led him to make a life change, giving up his career as an electrician to pursue camp ministry through the organization known as Sky Ranch. Here, Cordell would join the Legacy Fellowship Program in Westcliffe, Colorado, where he would serve guests, cook food, and learn overall hospitality, three things that would come in handy upon his star-fated meeting with Miss Allison Clary. Now, on Allison's side, she had just finished an internship program with her church and was not sure where the Lord was calling her next. She reached out to Janelle, who was currently in the Legacy Fellowship Program in Van, Texas, to see if that would be a good next step since Allison knew how much Janelle had grown within that year. Instead of encouraging Allison to be a fellow, she prompted her too apply for the Masters Program and low and behold Allison got the job. Now you may be wondering how two people who don't know each other, living in two different states, cross paths. The answer, Spring Break. Now, this isn't a story of sunny beaches and swimsuits, but rather, cleaning toilets and shoveling 3 feet of snow. Sky Ranch was hosting a Family Camp week at Horn Creek, where Cordell was, and invited the masters, including Allison, to come serve as counselors. Allison accepted, but almost didn't because she had plans for that weekend. Here is where the paths intertwined. Cordell, along with his fellows, was tasked with getting the meeting areas ready for the retreat. Alongside them, the masters, including Allison, were sent to help scrub toilets, make beds, and complete general housekeeping. Of the fellows, Cordell was one of the only ones assigned to the master's kitchen. He was assigned to serve three tables, two of which were Allison's. Here is where things get a little fuzzy; Cordell remembers asking one of the masters about Allison trying to get her name, when he should have just asked. At the beginning of the week, Allison fractured her finger, which we didn't know was that bad, while we were there. Cordell kindly made a homemade split that would be used and remade throughout the week. A couple of days in, Allison asked a question that would end up changing the mindset going forward for Cordell. "How old are you?" to which Genesis would emphasize, "Looks like you have a secret admirer." Allison will die on a hill and say that she was trying to get the information for someone else, even though she can't remember who asked. Cordell thought it must be Allison because of Genesis' suggestive nature. Cordell's interest piqued, he would then seek to find out more about this admittedly beautiful, kind stranger. Allison, not thinking much of it, had no idea. Cordell would offer to cook dinner for Allison and her master's friends for their last night at camp. That night, after dinner, the masters would go watch a movie where Cordell would strike up a conversation with Allison and eventually ask her for her phone number...something he was not used to. She gave him her number quite willingly because she loved talking to him and getting to know him. Once she got back to her cabin, she texted him to thank him for taking care of her friends so well, and after that text, we never stopped texting, and we eventually started to call each other. We would then spend all our free time texting, calling, and writing letters to one another at a distance, occasionally getting to see each other in person, until Cordell moved to Texas to start his job after the Fellowship. We would continue dating throughout the summer until March of 2025, when Cordell proposed in front of the penguin exhibit at the Fort Worth Zoo. The rest is history and more adventures to come...
