Most Irish weddings start in the afternoon and carry on until the early hours of the morning. Our wedding will start at 1:00 pm followed by a drinks reception, and a sit down dinner. The dinner will be a formal sit down event with wine pairings. After dinner & dessert there will be live music until about midnight. From midnight until 2 am there will be a DJ, and last call is at 2:45 am.
The biggest difference between US & Irish weddings is there are no open bars in Ireland because the wedding is an all day and night affair. Don't worry, there will be complimentary drinks with dinner, as well as, during cocktail hour.
Yes! There will be a shuttle from the Seven Oaks Hotel to Kilkea Castle. If you are staying at the Seven Oaks there will be a shuttle to the Church Cermony that will then take you to Kilkea Castle after the ceremony for the reception so your vehicle can stay at Seven Oaks. There will also be a shuttle bus back to the Seven Oaks from Kilkea Castle at 2am. If you are staying at Kilkea Castle there will be a shuttle to and from the Church.
Irish weddings may be all day and all night, but they're also never just a one day event! The day after is usually a casual gathering at a local pub with live music, and is a nice way for guests to reminisce about the night before & continue the celebrations. Our day after will take place at Kilkea Castle in the golf club house, & won't begin until the late afternoon so everyone can get a few hours of sleep.
If you decide to rent a car, make sure you specifically ask for an automatic or they will assume you can/want to drive a manual (stick shift) car. An automatic will also be more expensive. Oh, and make sure you remember to drive on the left side of the road!
Ireland's main currency is the euro. Most places you visit will take your credit or debit cards, so you won't need much cash. However, if you do want cash it is best to use a local bank's ATM (outside of the airport to avoid fees) when you arrive. If you plan to travel to Northern Ireland the currency is pound sterling. You can also get a revolut card where you can get a physical card and exchange money through the app which we find offers the best exchange rate.
The weather in Ireland in October can bring wet and windy conditions; however, mild, sunny days are common but always be prepared for some rain & wind. Make sure to pack plenty of layers for your trip!

Unfortunately, as much as we’d love to invite all of our friends’ children, in order to meet guest number restrictions we are only able to accommodate the children of the wedding party.
