How We Met

August 2013

The Bride and Groom first laid eyes on each other in their squadron's hallway at the United States Air Force Academy. Ash was a youthful 17 year old, fresh out of basic training, and surely looking her best (if you're into ABUs and military-issued glasses that had been masking-taped back together). Gunnar was the cool and semi-out of reach sophomore.

Way Too Long, Long Distance

The Bride and Groom spent over five years chasing each other around the country. They were true long weekend warriors; exploring new cities together any chance they had and hitting 15 different airports (weekend trivia prize for the first person to guess all 15). Many of you helped soften the post-airport goodbyes by talking and talking and talking on the phone. Thank you for rooting for this team!

The Proposal

April 10, 2021

Get your tissues ready, this is a good one. Here's the SparkNotes: The ring was created, with the brilliant help of no less than 6 people spanning several states and thousands of miles. Gunnar made a plan. Ashley (unknowingly) cancelled their trip. Gunnar came up with another plan. Realized it wouldn't work. Gunnar made yet another plan, on a Thursday night drive from Guilderland, NY to Sewell, NJ with Ashley asleep in the car. The plan was solidified on Friday. Saturday rolled around. Poor weather; a faulty car battery connection; a stranded stay on the side of I-95 in Maryland; a return trip to Delaware to swap cars; and not enough time to get ready later, Gunnar, Ashley, and Tonk found themselves right where they needed to be: on their way to happily ever after.

Tonk

You couldn't tell the story of Ashley and Gunnar without introducing the one and only, Tonka Bear. Tonk entered the scene in May 2017, when Ash decided Gunnar would need a stand-in companion while stationed in Minot, North Dakota. Little did she know that Tonk would inevitably end up stealing both of their hearts.
