How We Met-Emilie's Version

Stole a Boy's Heart with Pink & Blue Streaks

As I was dying my hair with streaks of blue and pink at Corey's cousin's Olivia's house, Olivia got a phone call from Corey to come to Mike's for a "pong tournament." Corey wore Sperry's and a V-neck that night fbecause he knew that's what I wanted my future boyfriend to wear, how dreamy. Corey came to Olivia's to pick us up and as I was standing in the kitchen in Olivia's clothes, her sister asks Corey, "Doesn't Em look good in those clothes?" With Corey blushing he chuckled and answered, "Yes!" On our way to Mike's house I noticed that Corey loved music and was comfortable busting out songs in front of me already. It must have been attractive because here I am 5 years later and engaged to this Prince-loving, Justin Timberlake-crushing man. When getting to Mike's house, Olivia made the comment "You better help your girlfriend down this wall." With Corey responding, "I don't even know her middle name," he took my hand and helped me down Mike's brick wall. Instantly he found out what my middle name was thanks to Olivia and our story started from there. He became my "Sperry Boyfriend" 5 months later on October 16, 2012.

How We Met-Corey's Version

One & only victory

After Olivia & I had just got done seeing a movie together her & I were talking and out of now where she says "you know I have the perfect girl for you, it's Emilie from my softball team!" after a few questions I thought why not! A couple weeks of no help from Liv I decide to take things into my own hands & throw a pong tournament (yes an actual ping pong tournament) once we got passed all the embarrassment we finally got to play some ping pong, little did I know at the time she was a world class cheater at games of all sorts that she learned from her dad. So obviously she cheated her way to her only win at ping pong. The hardest part for us was when Em decided to go away to college, she wrote me a collection of letters to open at certain times like "when you miss me", certain days, "when the distance seems to much" & things like that. The most important one though was one that said "if you ever dont trust me". Through the time she was away I never opened it. One night once Em had moved back I decided to open it & read it with her next to me to show her I never lost faith in us & from that point on I knew she was the one... Which is why it took me 5 different wedding ring purchases to find the perfect one, of course she had no idea all the way until it was finally on her finger even though I literally skied all day with it in my pocket!

The Engagement

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

We skied at Loveland Ski Area (how fitting) and what a day that was! It was getting towards the end of Day 1 and I about had it. Corey put Eliz and I on a blue slope that took us over an hour to get down. After that tragedy, I wanted nothing to do with the slopes and skiing, so Eliz and I headed into the lodge to warm up. Later we attempted skiing again. As I fell off the ski lift, Corey goes to the side and takes off his skis. He wanted a picture taken. I was numb, had just fallen off the ski lift, and now Corey, who never wants pictures, wanted a picture. I was fuming & said, "I am getting frustrated, can we just take this picture tomorrow," (with attitude and all). Before we could even get one picture, a couple asked us to take a picture. The boys skied ahead as Eliz and I followed and I saw them stop again for another picture. At this point I didn't care about a picture on the mountain with the beautiful scenery. Corey and I were finally taking a picture together and the same couple from the top of the slopes come down and ask for another picture. Same couple, 4 pictures later.. Corey pulls out my phone and goes to turn it on and it instantly dies. Thankfully Eliz saves the day and has her GoPro. She turns on her GoPro and it is flashing with a low battery. Corey had to ask NOW! I am standing with my arm around Corey ready for this picture and he is suddenly reaching for something in his pocket. He got down on one knee and said, "Although I piss you off and you have an eating problem, I still love you. Will you marry me?" I was speechless and crying frozen tears. I answered yes, and immediately asked, "Did you ask my dad?" He did! Then he said, "You can have the ring if you beat me down the mountain," and he left Eliz and I at the top of the mountain taking in the moment together. We agreed to not get engaged until I was graduated and there I was engaged for my last semester of school, feeling on top of the world...or mountain.
