It was a beautiful day for Pickleball that fateful October morning. Aimee pulled up to the Seal Beach, unusually late for a Mixed Tournament, however she felt confident. It was only 4.0 and it was just a local tournament, no sweat. After an unprecedented first lost, Aimee and her partner headed to losers bracket. Meanwhile, across the facilities, Robert and his partner lost as well. Little did they know, in that moment, the stars aligned and they were assigned to play against each other. Instead of losing that day, they would ultimately win... As the opponents warmed up, Aimee noticed Robert was nice and wasn't a typical ball hog. Robert could tell Aimee had a decent drop and couldn't help notice her gorgeous smile. The game was over in moments. Aimee doesn't recall the score but Robert remembers winning soundly at 15-7. Eventually, paddles were tapped and Robert went on to continue to fight through the bracket as Aimee called it a day and was left to contemplate her life choices as a pickle ball player but first impressions lingered... After reconnecting at a few more tournaments, opponents became teammates. A friendship grew naturally, but both were left wondering...is there something more? And after one special gold medal day, Robert asked Aimee to be his girlfriend. Thus, their long distance romance began. Robert clocked many hours on the road, coming back and forth on weekends from San Luis Obispo to Orange County. Weekends would consist of lots of pickle ball, visiting friends and growing in the gospel at church together. Last summer, Robert was able to move down to Orange County. 686 days from that morning in October, Robert took Aimee back out to Seal Beach and as the sun set, he asked her to be his wife.
