Growing up only 40 minutes away from one another and having high schools in the same conference we more than likely crossed paths before, however, we did not officially meet until August 2016 when we both began nursing school at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. We didn't actually really talk to one another until Brianna brought up one day in class how she saw Nick on TV when he was at one of the Iowa Hawkeye football games that year. That is when our friend group from college really grew. There was a large number of us who would do homework together, sit by each other in class, and basically get through the awfulness that is nursing school together. After what probably took months it wasn't until late into our first year of nursing school when Nick finally convinced Brianna (with the help from one of our good friends Emma) to actually go out on a date with him and the rest is history.
Our proposal story is one for the books. Anybody that knows Brianna knows that she can be one of the most stubborn people in the world and honestly I wouldn't have expected this to go any other way. The entire plan started months before the actual proposal date happened but nothing came into play how I wanted it to go at all. Brianna and I officially started dating in June of 2017, so I wanted to continue the "June" theme by proposing around that same time. Brianna and I both work nights as nurses which means we sleep during the daylight hours. We both had worked the night of the 20th and went to sleep that morning being June 21st. I went to sleep knowing what I was going to do that afternoon when we woke up. After we woke up I asked Brianna if she wanted to go out on a date just out to eat and maybe a walk or something. I wanted to do a recreation of our first date together which was going to Spaghetti Works to eat and then walking around the downtown Des Moines area. She of course just waking up from sleeping and being exhausted from the previous 3 nights of work said no that she didn't want to do anything that night besides stay at home. Now if anybody knows me I am not someone who really takes no as a good answer, so I continued to pester her about going out to eat. Her not having any idea of what I was planning continued to say "NO I am not going anywhere tonight." So I decided to take matters into my own hands and go and get ready to take her out. After getting ready I came downstairs with an impromptu speech going through my head and got down on one knee and asked the love of my life to marry me. Her being in pajamas, no make up, and hair a mess refused to look at the ring and looked at me and said: "Yes, but you have to redo it!" She told me that we can't tell anybody this story and that we have to redo it, so I convinced her to go get ready and then proceded with my original plan to ask the love of my life AGAIN to marry me and the rest is history.
