How We Met

Our story is Army strong

We were both in the same unit in the Army Reserve in 2013. We had passed each other several times during drill weekends, but never spoke. I needed a ride home one afternoon and an announcement was made in front of company formation. They asked who lived close enough to me and would be willing to give me a ride, and Ryan offered his help. From that moment forward, a ride grew into a friendship, and a friendship soon grew into a love like I'd never known. We had our first date on July 31st, 2013 at the movies. It was like any first date can be expected; butterflies and child-like interactions. Being in the same unit in the Army, we had to keep our relationship on the down-low because as any one knows, there is no fraternization allowed. I think we did a really great job in being professional about our relationship because as soon as I completed my contract and we made it official, everyone kept asking how we hid it so well! In July of 2014, Ryan was at my home one night, that I lived in with my mom. That night, we all witnessed our home burn down in a fire. For the next several months following the fire, my mom and I were living in hotels and Ryan was always there. When my mom's home was ready, Ryan and I decided to rent an apartment and see what it would be like to live together. We moved into our apartment in October of 2014. We had Rilee, our small pomeranian with us, and decided to adopt our other baby, Remington shortly after in January of 2015. In march, we took a trip to visit my brother, Andrew, living in Arizona. After spending less than a week there, we both loved it and decided we were moving. We finished school for the semester and moved in August of 2015, where we have been since. Christmas Eve of 2017, Ryan proposed to me in front of his family. The moment started out as an "everyone gets to open one present and Amber and Ryan can go first." Little did I know we were opening up an engagement to the rest of our lives together!
